Incident Map

What is the SHiFT incident Map

The SHiFT Incident Map is a live, UK-wide safety platform built for fibre telecoms engineers. Every incident report submitted by a member adds to a real-time picture of risk across the country helping all of us identify danger areas before arriving on site and stay one step ahead.

The more reports submitted, the more accurate the map becomes and the safer our engineers are on the road.

How to access it?

Web: Visit shiftincidentmap.com in any browser

Mobile App: Search ‘ShiftMap’ on the App Store or Google Play.

What's on the map?

Incidents are colour-coded by type so they’re easy to read at a glance:

• 🔵 Theft
• 🔴 Equipment Theft
• 🟣 Verbal Abuse
• 🟠 Threat/Assault
• 🩷 Physical Assault
• 🟢 Vandalism

You can tap any pin for full details including a description, location, and postcode. Use the filter panel to narrow by incident type, or toggle the heatmap view to spot high-risk hotspot areas quickly.

We strongly encourage all engineers to check the map before visiting unfamiliar locations.

How to submit an incident report?

Reporting takes less than 2 minutes. Here’s how:

1. Open the app or website and go to the Report tab
2. Select the type of incident
3. Describe what happened (10–1,000 characters)
4. Add a crime reference number if one was issued
5. Enter contractor name and client details
6. Select the location type, postcode, and date
7. Optionally add details on damage, injuries, or stolen items
8. Tap Submit

Important: Always report, even if the police were not contacted and please use the exact incident postcode, not your depot or office address.

What's happens after you report?

Your report is securely received by the SHiFT data team, reviewed for accuracy and privacy (no personal details are ever published), and then published live as a colour-coded pin visible to all UK users. Your report could prevent the same incident from happening to another engineer tomorrow.
